NFL Draft – Is Jimmy Clausen the best QB in the 2010 Draft

The 2010 NFL draft is not likely to go down as an exceptionally talented one at the QB spot. In a year when there were a handful of signal callers predicted to be first round picks, players were unable to live up the NFL betting lines hype during the 2009 season and now there’s likely a maximum of two QBs that will go during the first round.

Jimmy Clausen is one of the QBs that most NFL betting lines draft experts will go in Round 1. Obviously it’s hard to predict the NFL draft before the Combine and pro days have been held but as of right now Clausen is at the top of the QB depth chart. He put up tremendous stats his in 2009: 3,722 yards passing, 28 TDs, 4 INTs, 162 passer rating, 68% completion.

But his team was still awful finishing at 6-6 after many NFL betting lines experts thought the Irish would be title contenders. And that’s the thing that rubs people the wrong way about Clausen: he isn’t a winner. Many of the losses were very tight games where the defense couldn’t stop opponents late, or where Clausen couldn’t lead his team to victory.

Also, if you’ve seen any tape of Clausen it seems like he’s got some accuracy issues, especially deep down the field. On many occasions he threw up awful balls but was saved by the superior talents of standout WR and fellow NFL draft entrant Golden Tate. Much of the accuracy issues will be clarified at the Combine and once teams have a chance to interview the QB much more will be known about where he might go in the NFL draft.

Accuracy issues? You just read his factual stats as 68% completion with 4 interceptions. Watch his tape on youtube, it doesn’t lie.

I don’t know why people refuse to give Clausen the benefit of the doubt. I get that people like him but if you are an NFL scout approaching this game like a business you simply can’t pass on this kid. Especially for a guy like Bradford with serious durability issues.
