Notre Dame hasn’t had a lot of success in the world of football over the past three seasons. Head Coach Charlie Wiess’ miracle turn-around job has yet to materialize and this team consistently produces one disappointment after another.

However, WR Golden Tate has been the exception to this mediocrity and even though he hasn’t been receiving as much NFL Draft hype of some other players at his position, he could very well be the best WR NFL betting lines prospect in this class.

Tate isn’t the number one rated WR in this year’s NFL draft and there are likely to be several players at that position taken before him when the 2010 NFL betting lines draft finally goes down. But that could be a major mistake.

A quick glance at Tate’s numbers and it’s hard to ignore his production on the field: 93 catches, 15 TDs, 1496 yards all in just 12 games for an average of 124.7 ypg. There aren’t many WRs in the NFL draft this year with those types of numbers. And after watching tape of Tate viewers are even more impresses with his pass catching skills and route running.

But what most NFL betting lines experts don’t like is his size and speed. He’s not 6’5” and he doesn’t run a 4.3. But there are plenty of superior receivers that don’t fit that classic size and speed mold and Tate is one of them. With his route running skills and physical skills he could be the rare rookie WR that makes a major impact his first year in the NFL. He’ll be a major addition for whatever team lands him.

The St Louis Rams might be an unenviable team but they are certainly in an enviable position as the team holds the first pick overall in the upcoming NFL draft. With a number of excellent prospects in the NFL gambling draft this year they should come away with sure fire star.

But with so many problems which player does the team take? Investing tens of millions of dollars in an unproven rookie is the daunting task that faces every team that picks first in the NFL gambling draft. The consensus among the NFL gambling experts is that the Rams will go with a DT with their first pick in the NFL draft.

This year is loaded with excellent DTs and the Rams are supposedly torn between Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska and Oklahoma’s Gerald McCoy. Both seem to be sure things but while most people have Suh the higher rated player, McCoy fits better in the 4-3 system of Coach Spagnolia. But with no real talent at any position on the field and an offense in desperate need of a makeover the QB spot can’t be ignored.

As it’s the most important position on the field the Rams will definitely look at the prospects as well. Sam Bradford appears to be the top player at this position but is a big question mark due to injuries and the spread offensive system he’s coming from. He may not be ready to play for a few years and after going 1-15 in his first year at the helm Spagnolia will be looking for immediate impact players and it seems likely he’ll go with one of the two DTs with the first pick in the NFL draft.

There are those in the NFL gambling community that swear by the NFL Draft combine. And then there are those in the NFL gambling community who couldn’t think of a bigger waste of time than the NFL Draft combine.

The combine on a purely conceptual basis is a terrific idea. Get the top players in the country and the top NFL Draft prospects to go to Indy and work out in a way that allows the NFL gambling franchises a look at the young men they are about to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in. The only problem is that in practice, it doesn’t really work out that way.

The top players often decline to attend and those that do attend often decline to participate in the key drills. QBs are infamous for declining to throw here and prefer to do so at their own Pro Days with their own receivers and the results tend to be skewed because of the familiarity. There are many who say that the Combine actually has a negative effect on the draft process.

As is often the case the workouts only boost the stock of players that otherwise wouldn’t have any business being drafted. How often do we hear of a player who puts up huge Combine numbers, see his draft stock sky rocket, only to be out of the league in two years. The Combine also penalizes productive players that perhaps don’t run a mind-blowing 40 but simply know how to play the game as their stats suggest. But until there’s a better system devises this is still the best indicator we have.

Before this past weekend Dez Bryant was not only the unanimous top WR available in the upcoming NFL Draft but was very likely a top ten pick. But he did himself no great favors at the NFL Draft combine and actually alienated teams and did poorly in the interviewing processes according to several NFL gambling experts.

Bryant is the supremely talented WR from Oklahoma State who had his season cut short and was suspended for 10 games after he allegedly made contact with an agent at the home of former NFL gambling great Deon Sanders. Not a huge deal for most NFL Draft teams as the matter seemed to be mostly an honest one.

But at the NFL Draft combine independent investigations kept turning up information that prospective NFL gambling teams didn’t want to hear. Bryant apparently is habitually late for practices and even games. He also made no fans when he actually took off from the combine early, not even sticking around and every other prospect does, if they’re not participating in all the events to due to injuries.

None of the teams he spoke with seemed to be all that impressed with his interviewing skills either. But this could simply be another story blown out proportion by the media and if he has a stellar Pro Day on campus all will be forgotten. After all, he’s going to be paid to catch footballs and score TDs not give interviews. He’s also hardly the only other prospect with a history of being late that’s nothing an alarm clock and stiff fine can’t fix.

The NFL game is changing. The run, run and run some more approach on offense has been discredited during recent NFL betting lines seasons as teams with pass heavy offenses and gun-slinging QBs have outshone traditional running offenses.

As such pass defenders and versatility in the secondary have come to be prized objects in the NFL Draft. This year’s NFL draft is no different and there are some very interesting NFL betting lines player prospects in the secondary this year, especially at the safety spot. Headlining the safety position in the 2010 NFL draft is Tennessee product Eric Berry.

Berry was phenomenal all three year’s he was on campus is projected to be at the very least a top ten pick and an All Pro in the NFL betting lines. Safety hasn’t traditionally been a key position on the defense and rarely does a safety get taken in the top or top five of the draft, but with offense emphasizing the passing game in the modern game a versatile player up the middle who can defend both the run and the pass is integral for defensive success.

Think Troy Polamolu or Ed Reed and the tremendous impact they have on their team’s success. Berry plays a very similar style to these two players and should similarly have a major impact in the league. Other top prospects at safety include Taylor Mays of USC and Earl Thomas of Texas. Another player on the bubble that might slip to team in the mid round of the draft and have a major impact is LSU’s 220-lb bruiser Chad Jones.

And the question that everyone wants to know is which player will taken first?

Right now if you asked just about any NFL gambling fan they would tell you the same thing: Ndamukong Suh. This defensive terror from the University of Nebraska flew a bit under the NFL gambling radar but after watching what he did to opponents in the Big 12 championship, at the Senior Bowl and quick glance at his numbers and it’s easy to see that he’s a special talent and all but guaranteed the number spot in the NFL draft.

Suh finished the 2009 season with 12.5 sacks, 23 tackles for a loss and 28 QB hurries. Those are tremendous numbers for an interior lineman, and as any NFL gambling scout will tell you an interior lineman that can get sacks is a once a decade NFL draft prospect. Almost unanimously, NFL scouts and personnel men think Suh is the surest thing in the draft and most ready to have an immediate impact.

The only thing that would keep Suh from being the first pick in this draft would be if the Rams desperately wanted to draft a QB. In which case a player like Sam Bradford or maybe even Jimmy Clausen would be taken first. But nothing in sports is so risky as taking a QB high in the NFL draft. Suh is a once a generation player and a sure thing. The Rams will almost certainly take him with the first pick on draft day.

While the QBs always get most of the hype in the run up the NFL gambling draft season this year it’s the WR that that have the NLF draft fans wagging their tongues. As more and more colleges go to pass dominant offenses the quality of WR has steadily increased and this year’s NFL gambling draft class of WRs is as deep as its been in years.

So far there Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant has emerged as the gem of this class. Depsite missing the second half of the season due to improper contact with Dion Sanders and agents he did enough in half a season to convince NFL gambling scouts that he’s the man.

At 6’2 210 lbs Bryant has the size and the speed to succeed in the NFL and he’s got great hands and ball skills. He’ll likely be a top ten pick and can help out in the return game as well. Damion Williams of USC is another player that NFL draft fans will see called early. Williams’ numbers in ’09 weren’t overwhelming but you have to remember that he played with a true freshman QB who struggled most of the season but he comes from a pro style offense and is crazy fast.

He runs a 4.45 and is lethal in the return game. Could turn out to be better than Bryant. One WR that isn’t ranked at the top of any WR depth charts in the NFL draft but should be is Notre Dame WR Golden Tate. He’ll go in the first two rounds but he could turn out to be the biggest surprise in the draft. He doesn’t have the great size that NFL scouts want (5’11” 190 lbs) but he’s a blazer (4.41) and he has tremendous ball skills. Jimmy Clausen would not be an NFL prospect if it wasn’t for Tate making him look good.

In a year when there were a handful of signal callers predicted to be first round picks, players were unable to live up the NFL betting lines hype during the 2009 season and now there’s likely a maximum of two QBs that will go during the first round.

Jimmy Clausen is one of the QBs that most NFL betting lines draft experts will go in Round 1. Obviously it’s hard to predict the NFL draft before the Combine and pro days have been held but as of right now Clausen is at the top of the QB depth chart. He put up tremendous stats his in 2009: 3,722 yards passing, 28 TDs, 4 INTs, 162 passer rating, 68% completion.

But his team was still awful finishing at 6-6 after many NFL betting lines experts thought the Irish would be title contenders. And that’s the thing that rubs people the wrong way about Clausen: he isn’t a winner. Many of the losses were very tight games where the defense couldn’t stop opponents late, or where Clausen couldn’t lead his team to victory.

Also, if you’ve seen any tape of Clausen it seems like he’s got some accuracy issues, especially deep down the field. On many occasions he threw up awful balls but was saved by the superior talents of standout WR and fellow NFL draft entrant Golden Tate. Much of the accuracy issues will be clarified at the Combine and once teams have a chance to interview the QB much more will be known about where he might go in the NFL draft.

In the history of college football there may not have been a better player than University of Florida QB Tim Tebow. The Hiesman Award winner and two time national champion has arguably the most gilded resume of any player ever to enter the NFL draft.

But he also faces a very uncertain future as many NFL betting lines experts don’t think his skill set will transfer over to the next level. In his sophomore season Tebow put together the greatest offensive season in the history of the sport. He accounted for a mind-boggling 55 TDs (32 passing, 23 rushing) and finished the season with a passer rating of 172.5, numbers that had NFL betting lines scouts drooling.

He also picked up the Heisman Award yet still many questions remained about his desirability in the NFL draft. The knock on him as a QB is that he’s played in a spread system and his mechanics. Most NFL betting lines scouts believe his elongated delivery will either lead to sacks, batted balls or tip off corners and that’s why they’re hesitant to take Tebow with a high pick in the NFL draft.

That being said Tebow is winner. And to paraphrase the great Bill Walsh, once a winner, always a winner. Tebow is a powerful runner but not exactly speedy but he’s still an intriguing project at H-back or tight end. But no matter what position he’s projected to play he’ll likely be off the board by the second round. His past success is simply to substantial to overlook in the NFL draft and if he answers questions about accuracy and mechanics at the Combine, there’s no way he slips to the third round.

The first 15 minutes of the recent Super Bowl went according to script. The Indy Colts came charging out of the locker room and proceeded to dominate every are of the Super Bowl stats against the New Orleans Saints. And for the most part the Colts dominated the second quarter of the sports betting competition as well.

But the Super Bowl is four quarters of fun and the Saints simply refused to give up. They took advantage of a heap of Colts’ errors and claimed the first Super Bowl stats title in franchise history. Even though the 4th quarter INT returned for a TD stands out as the deal breaker in this sports betting matchup it was actually a series of Colts mistakes and the Saints capitalizing on all of them that propelled New Orleans to the Super Bowl stats win.

The curious and ballzy onside kick to start the second half is perhaps the best example of the Saints willingness to take risk and capitalizing and the Colts failure to execute. Peter King of NBC and SI recounted how the Saints had seen the Colts front line players on the Colts kick return cheating and dropping back to block before the ball had been kicked. And you can see as the ball bounced off of Hank Baskett’s shoulder pads that he was certainly taken by surprise.

But there were plenty of other errors. Reggie Wayne played an awful game and dropped passes in the end zone and at midfield that could have been game changers. And according to many sports betting analysts his poor route running was more to blame for the 4th quarter pick than Manning’s placement. And then there was the ultra-conservative play calling once they took the lead in sports betting’s biggest game. In a game that Indy could have and should have won, they didn’t. And now they have to stew on second place for 12 months.
