There are not many things in this world that NFL QBs enjoy less than playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers (14-4) defense, and especially not in Super Bowl betting situations.

Let us count the ways in which the Steelers terrorize their opponents: 1st in the NFL in Sacks (48.0), 1st in yards lost on Sacks (319), 1st in the NFL in takeaways (41), 2nd in INTs returned for TDs (3), 3rd in TD passes allowed, 3rd in INTS (21), and definitely the front-runner it in the unofficial stat column of offensive coordinator nightmares.

But as impressive as the Steelers D is on paper, and on the field (1st in the NFL in points allowed: 14.5 ppg) it’s not without its weaknesses.

Anyone who has seen this team play over the past few years knows that its CBs are below par for NFL standards and can –and have- been beaten by top passing teams.

But the problem is that you’ve got to deal with the Steelers blitz first, or your QB will get murdered before he can get the ball to the receiver which will most likely have beaten the Steelers cover man, especially if Pittsburgh is the nickel formation.

Not many teams can do that.

But one the team’s that has the personnel and the QB to beat the Steelers is the Green bay Packers (13-6) and when these two teams matchup in the Super Bowl odds competition this weekend we’ll see if Aaron Rodgers and his receivers can best the #1 defense in the league.

Kickoff for this Sunday February 6th matchup is set for 6:30 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Packers as a 2-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

Rodgers is one of the top QBs in the game and the highest rated QB in NFL history (98.4 passer rating) and NFL playoff history (113.0). He also has a history of picking apart the Steelers D. In 2009 Rodgers completed 26 of his whopping 48 pass attempts for 383 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs and was sacked just once.

If he repeats those numbers this weekend the Green Bay Packers will most likely be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for a 4th time.

But one thing that people forget about is the fact that Green Bay lost that game 37-36 (big Ben threw for a career high 503 yards) and that’s something to keep in mind when betting on the Super Bowl this week.

This Weekend’s NFC Championship game has as much hype surrounding it as any Conference championship has had in quite some time. And why shouldn’t it? This battle for a berth in the Super Bowl features two of the marquee franchises in the NFL, the Chicago Bears (12-5) and the Green Bay Packers (12-6), and the oldest rivalry in professional football.

These two clubs first met on the grid iron in 1921 and have been butting heads ever since. This will the 183rd meeting of this teams, but what makes this matchup so fascinating is the fact that despite all the history, this will be just the 2nd time that that these two storied franchises have met in the post season.

In the words of the modern day football poet, T.O.: “get your popcorn ready”. Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 3:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Packers as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 43.5.

This title game could turn out to be one of the great games in the NFL gambling history with all the tradition and history surrounding this matchup. But more likely than not the Pack will keep on marching towards the Super Bowl and the Bears will get a head start on the offseason, just as the odds NFL bookmakers have released seemingly predict.

Green Bay is the hottest team in the league right now, hands down. Heading into this weekend the Packers have the longest winning streak of any remaining playoff team (4 games); and those wins have been over impressive opponents (Giants, Eagles, Falcons) including the Chicago Bears.

What’s more impressive is the fact that their last two wins were against arguably the two best teams in the NFC (#1 see Atlanta, #3 seed Philly) on the road in playoff atmospheres. Soldier field in frigid conditions should provide little advantage for the Bears for team that’s as focused as the Packers appear right now.

The Bears have a very good defense that’s allowed just 17.9 ppg (4th in the NFL) but they’ll have their work cut out for them against a Green Bay offense that’s averaging 34.5 ppg in the playoffs.

Granted the Bears have been awfully impressive in the playoffs this season as well, but with just one game (a 35-24 victory over Seattle) at home against the worst playoff team in NFL history, the sample size is too small to draw any real conclusion. However, it’s obvious that the Packers are hot team right now, peaking at just right time and that’s why they’ll beat the Bears in this NFL betting odds competition.

<img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1149" style="border: 3px solid black; title="colts vs titans" src="http://www.nflgambling.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Tennessee-Titans300.jpg" alt="colts vs titans" width="180" height="180" />Thursday Night NFL gambling action is in full swing and this week’s matchup features a division rivalry between two desperate and struggling teams. The Indy Colts (6-6) desperately need a win to keep pace with the AFC South leading Jacksonville Jaguars (7-5) and the Tennessee Titans (5-7) have got to put the brakes on a 5-game losing streak before the season goes down the toilet.

Neither of these teams is playing very good football at this moment, and both teams will rely on their superstar players to get thing back on track. Colts’ QB Peyton Manning is suffering through the worst 3-game stretch of his NFL career (11 INTs in 3 straight losses) and Titans’ RB Chris Johnson has only 188 combined rushing yards in his past 3 games and 0 TDs. Whichever player has the bigger game will lead his team to victory.

Kickoff for this Thursday Dec. 09, 2010 matchup is set for 8:25 Eastern Time and SBG Global opened with the Colts as a 2.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 46.5.

Johnson isn’t quite as important to the Titans as Manning is to the Colts, but then no player in sports betting is as important to his team as Manning is.

Still, if the Titans are going to prevent their losing streak from reaching 6-games he’s got have a huge game. And the matchup looks favorable as Indy has a terrible run defense. Teams are averaging 142.8 yards rushing per game (29th in the NFL) and giving up 4.8 yards per rush attempt. For a game breaker like Johnson that’s great news. Johnson is always just a handoff away from finding the end zone from anywhere on the field but with the melt down of the passing game teams have been able to stack the box against him. The Colts will do the same thing but Indy is soft and small up the middle and if the Titans offense can keep the outside pressure from DEs Dwight Freeney (8.0 sacks) and Robert Mathis (9.0 sacks) to a minimum they’ll be able to move the ball.

But the Titans still have to outscore the high flying Colts offense which is likely not possible unless Manning throws 4 INTs again.

Johnson will likely have a big game but it still might not be enough for the Titans to get an NFL betting odds win.

The NFC East is always full of surprises and Monday night’s NFL betting odds match up between the Washington Redskins (4-4) and the Philadelphia Eagles (5-3) will be interesting for a variety or reasons –not the least of which is the on field action.

Both of these teams are playoff caliber teams and both remain firmly in the hunt in the hunt for the NFC East title. At present the New York Giants (6-3) hold a .5 game lead over the Eagles and a 1.5 game lead over the Skins. Tonight’s match up will be crucial in deciding how the division title race works itself out and neither team can afford to lose.

Kickoff for this Monday match up is set for 8:40 Eastern Time and SBG Global opened with the Eagles as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 42.5.

This is not the first time these two teams have met but it will be last time during the regular season that they’ll play one another. When these two team’s met in Week 4 in Philly it was an ugly affair that both teams deserved to lose but somehow former Eagle’s QB turned Redskins’ QB, Donovan McNabb, did just enough to lead his new team to a 17-12 win over his former employer.

McNabb will play a huge roll in this week’s NFL gambling results as well. Last week against (1-5) Detroit the coaching staff benched McNabb in the closing minutes in favor of Rex Grossman. It was a bad decision and Grossman turned the ball over in the team’s final passion.

So with that as a backdrop and the clumsy handling of the benching by Coach Mike Shanahan it will be interesting to see how McNabb bounces back. McNabb was benched once before in his career and threw 4 TDs and 0 INTs in his next start. Skins’ fans can only hope for such a rebound.

Philly is loaded with talent and with QB Michael Vick (105.3 passer rating, 7 TDs, 0 INTs in 5 games) back in top form after missing time with injuries the Eagles team is a very tough win, especially with the team’s receiving corps getting healthy.

McNabb will likely bounce back and have a big day but with the running game crippled due to injuries the offense will be one dimensional and the D will have its hands full with Vick.

Look for the Eagles to get the sports betting win in the Capitol.

The NFL Network’s recent Top 100 Players of All-Time program listed Peyton Manning as the second best QB in the history of the NFL betting odds competition. Only 4-time Super Bowl champion Joe Montana was listed higher at the position. But anyone that’s seen Manning in action this season could make a good argument for bumping him past Montana on the all time list.

Whereas Montana had Rice, Clark and Taylor to throw the ball to and Roger Craig and Tom Rathman to hand the ball off to, Manning is working with practice squad players named Tamme, White and James.

And he’s putting up ridiculous passing stats (309.8 yards passing per game, 16 TDs, 4 INTs) and has led the Colts to an impressive 5-3 record.

His Colts will host the super-underachieving Cincinnati Bengals (2-6) in the Week 10 sports betting action and when the final whistle blows Indy should be 6-3 heading into Week 11.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Colts as a 7-point favorite with an over/under total at 47.

The Bengals have no excuse for their awful play this season and not much hope of winning in Indy.

Cincy’s defense is 7th worst in the league (23.8 ppg). It’s giving up 338 yards per game and hasn’t held an opponent to less than 22 points in almost 2 months.

The Colts have no running and Cincy can bank of Manning passing the ball a whole bunch. The Bengals have two talented CBs in Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall but against the Colts you need about 4 great cover guys. Cincy’s defense, while hardly the worst part of their team (10 INTs) won’t be able to stop the Colts passing game.

It will be up to the Bengals offense to try and outscore Manning & Co. and that is not a very likely prospect. Despite Carson Palmer passing for 262.0 yards per game and Terrell Owens putting arguably the best receiving numbers in the league (96.3 ypg, 7 TDs) this offense is going nowhere in a hurry.

Indy’s pass rush should keep Palmer in check and this offense never scores until the opponents are sitting on a lead and playing prevent.

Pick the Colts to win this NFL gambling matchup.

In a watered down NFC North in a very weak NFC field this year both the 5-3 Bears and the 3-5 Vikings have a shot at capturing the division title and booking a spot in the NFL playoff sports betting action.

The Bears are tied for the second best record in the entire conference but are completely underwhelming. The Vikings can thank the 1-8 Cowboys for preventing them from being the single most disappointing team of the NFL season so far.

But it’s only Week 10 and with the way that the NFC, and the NFC North are playing out so far there is still time for both teams to make the playoffs.

Kickoff for this Thursday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Bears as a 1-point favorite with an over/under total at 40.

The Bears have Bears haven’t been very good at any aspect of the game this season (with the exception of special teams returns) and have managed to outscore NFL gambling opponents just 148-133 and their record is a bit of a mirage.

However, they’re a perfect 2-0 within the division including an impressive Week 3 win over division leader Green Bay (6-3).

But the Bears are just 2-2 at home and against a Minnesota Vikings team coming off a very gutty win in Week 9 it’s going to have its hands full.

Especially worrisome for the Bears offense is the Vikings’ newly found pass rush. In last week’s come from behind win against the Cardinals the team notched 6.0 sacks and DE Jared Allen finally came alive as he grabbed 2.5 sacks in the effort. You can be sure that the Vikings front 7 is salivating at the prospect of playing a Bears team that has given up a league leading 32 sacks in 8 games.

On offense Brett Favre finally looked like his old self in a 446 yard performance, the first game of the season in which he had something resembling a healthy receiving corps. Add to that the fact that the Bears pass defense ranks 19th in the league and have just 5 INTs on the year and Favre looks set for another big day.

Look for the Vikings to run their win streak to 2 games in the Week 10 NFL betting odds action.

And at 5-3 and atop the NFC North the season has hardly been a waste, but this team has struggled mightily at times this season and ranks just 14h in the league in scoring (22.0 ppg).

That’s a much different result than the preseason projections that expected this team to be a top 3 offense. Injuries and the lack of any running game whatsoever have contributed to the team’s offensive shortcomings but if the Pack is looking to turn the train around, then the 1-6 Dallas Cowboys is a perfect punching bag to pad the stats with.

If Green Bay wins this Week 9 matchup it could be a major turning point as the team has a bye in Week 10 and would emerge with a very strong 6-3 record and as healthy as it’s been since Game 1.

Kickoff for this Sunday night matchup is set for 8:30 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Packers as a 8-point favorite with an over/under total at 45.5.

Dallas has nothing to look forward to. Even if it won the remainder of games left on the schedule –which is perhaps the most improbable statement ever written- it would finish the season at 10-6 which may or may not be good enough to get into the postseason.

But with Pro Bowl QB Tony Romo out with a shattered collar bone and Central Washington University legend John Kitna (4 INTs last week) behind center this team will be lucky to win 4 games this year.

The Packers offense should beat up on the Dallas defense which has been awful. It’s allowing 26.7 points per game (26th in the NFL) and has given up 134 points in its past 4 games.

The Packers should also be able to score 30+ at home against this pathetic Cowboys squad and pick up their 6th sports betting victory of the year.

At first glance this game would seem to be a foregone conclusion as the Pats, at 6-1, have the best record in the NFL and the Browns, at 2-5, are simply terrible. And that perception might be accurate.

But the Browns are the best 2-5 team in the league. This team is coming off a major upset of the Super Bowl Champion Saints in the Super Dome. They’re also coming off a Bye week in which they had an extra week to study tape on the Pats. But this team’s coaching staff is awfully familiar with the Pats as head coach Eric Manginius got his coaching start there.

It’s also interesting that since falling out with his hooded guru, Bill Belichick, Manginius is one of the few Belichick disciples that have gotten the better of the teacher

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Patriots as a 5.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

This game is bound to be far more exciting than the NFL gambling line indicates. Cleveland is deceptively good now that the franchise seems to have found an answer at QB in rookie Colt McCoy. He’s tremendously accurate (65.3%) and despite his 1 TD/2 INT ratio he’s gone through his baptism of fire (road games at Pittsburgh and New Orleans) with a 1-1 record and has played QB as well as anyone in Cleveland since Bernie Kosar.

Add to that the bruising running game of RB Peyton Hillis and the offense will be a much bigger challenge for the Pats D than many people expect.

Then there’s always the element of Manginius vs. Belichick that makes this game such a wildcard.

There’s no negating the fact that the Pats have the best offense in the NFL (29.3 ppg) but the Browns defense has come on strong of late and now ranks 13th in the NFL after getting walked all over in the early going.

This game could be a “Dawg”-fight and it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see the Browns at least beat the sports betting spread.

It’s a rare occasion that Drew Brees throws 4 INTs in a month but to unleash all those off target passes in just 60 minutes of work is indeed a NFL gambling rarity. But it does happen, at least it did happen, last week against the god awful Cleveland Browns of all teams.

Brees is going to have to get his vision checked and his arm on target in the Week 8 action as his 4-2 Saints play host to a surging 5-1 Pittsburgh Steelers team boasting #1 defense in the league (13.7 ppg). This unit will make the Browns defense look like the Girl Scouts and will capitalize on even the smallest Brees mistake.

But as good as this defense is, it’s still tough to bet against Super Bowl champion Brees and the likelihood of him having two bad games is a row is slim.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:25 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Saints as a 1-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

No matter how bad he may have looked last week, the NFL betting odds makers, just can’t see this guy choking two weeks in a row at the Super Dome in front of his beloved Who ‘Dat Nation.

The one thing that’s working in Brees favor is the fact that despite being the #1 overall defense in the NFL, the Steelers –at least statistically- have not been all that effective against the pass.

The Steelers have been lights out against the run giving up a cartoonish 63.7 yards per game. But against the pass this team ranks 24th in the NFL, giving up an unholy 235.7 passing yards per game. That’s got to sweet music to Brees’ ears.

But that stat comes with a caveat as a lot of those yards have come in garbage time in games that were already in hand. And even though the team has given up big yards, it’s only given up 4 passing TDs in 6 games. It also has 9 INTs to go with those numbers and Brees should very little time to run through progressions in the pocket as the Steelers also have 18.0 sacks.

If the Saints are going to win it will be on a big day passing for Brees, but don’t fall into the stat trap that the Steelers are weak against the pass. Pittsburgh still looks like the better team and should win this sports betting matchup.

Monday night football is the perfect solution to the problem commonly known as ‘Monday’ and there’s nothing on the sports betting menu that even comes close to satisfying fans the way the Monday Night action does after a long and terrible day back at work.

This Monday fans will be treated a fantastic matchup between the Dallas Cowboys (1-4) and the New York Giants (4-2). These two NFC East rivals hate each other and the teams’ records can be thrown out the window –any time they play it’s generally a very tough game.

Kickoff for this Monday matchup is set for 8:40 Eastern Time and sbg sportsbook opened with the Cowboys as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.5.

It seems a bit unorthodox that a team with a 1-4 record should be favored against a team that’s won 3 straight and has one of the best records in the NFL. But division rivalries rarely make sense and it’s the familiarity of the teams that make these contests so unpredictable.

However this NFL gambling line is predicated on the fact that Dallas simply has too much raw talent on its roster to start the season at 1-5. It has little to do with the Giants play of late or the Cowboys recent losses.

Tony Romo has fairly or unfairly absorbed much of the blame for his team’s lack of success but he’s been playing at a very high level (93.6 passer rating, 313.2 ypg, 69.4 completion %, 10 TDs, 7 INTs) even if the team is struggling. He’ll have to have a huge game to beat the Giants tonight and will likely do so in front of a national audience if his patchwork line can buy him some time.

The Giants have 21 sacks in 6 games and seem to always play especially well against the Cowboys, located Romo with particular ease. Romo will have to get the ball out early and the coaching staff is going have to call a good game.

But the Cowboys should be able to move the ball on the Giants and you have to like the Dallas’ chances in this NFL betting odds match up for no other reason than it simply seems so highly improbable that this squad could start the season with a 1-5 record.
